Effect on blood heavy metal concentration in gas poisoning by combustion of ignition coal: Pilot study

Purpose: It is known that the most common cause of gas poisoning in Korea suicide attempts by burning ignition coals. Ignition coals are made from waste wood, and studies have been reported heavy metals emitted when this coal burned. However, there was no study on how much metal occurs human body through this, so planned to find out whether concentration blood increased patients exposed combustion. Methods: From April 2020 2021, lead, mercury, cadmium concentrations were investigated carbon monoxide who visited one regional emergency medical center Seoul, their association with exposure time, source poisoning, rhabdomyolysis investigated. Results: During period, a total 136 tested for metals, 81 cases reported. When comparing caused combustion other substances, difference blood, number above reference range. more than 5 hours frequent those group less lead (51.4% vs. 23.9%, p=0.012). Conclusion: Compared combustible does not increase further coal. prolonged may result elevated levels lead.
